Swindon Arts Centre will play host to a heartfelt tribute to one of Britain’s most cherished comedians, as Looking For Me Friend: The Music of Victoria Wood arrives on Sunday, 6th October2024 at 7:30pm.
The show, written and performed by cabaret star Paulus (known as ‘The Cabaret Geek’ from BBC1’s All Together Now), is part of a special fifth-anniversary autumn tour.
Directed by the multi-award-winning Sarah-Louise Young (An Evening Without Kate Bush), the show promises a mixture of laughter, nostalgia, and memorable songs from the late comedy icon, Victoria Wood. The performance celebrates Wood’s legacy with a setlist that includes some of her best-known works such as It Would Never Have Worked, Reincarnation, and the ever-popular Ballad of Barry & Freda (Let’s Do It). Fans will also get to enjoy some of Wood’s more poignant and lesser-known songs.
Joining Paulus on stage is the talented pianist Michael Roulston (Fascinating Aida), in a nod to the comedic genius that it takes “two men to do the work of one woman – half as well!”
Reflecting on the tour, Paulus shared his excitement: “I’m thrilled that we can continue travelling the UK for another year, celebrating a lost, much-loved friend. There’s nothing I love more than meeting fellow fans of the unforgettable Victoria Wood and introducing a new generation to her wit, wisdom, and wordplay.”
Paulus has long been an admired figure in the cabaret world, having produced and performed at London’s legendary cabaret venue, The Battersea Barge. With a rich history of producing cabarets and running the successful talent contest Cheese ‘n’ Crackers, Paulus is no stranger to putting on a good show. His homage to Wood, which premiered in London in 2020, has continued to capture the hearts of audiences across the UK.
For lovers of Victoria Wood’s comedy and newcomers alike, this is sure to be an evening filled with laughter, warmth, and memories of a national treasure.
