Malmesbury Folk & Roots Festival returns to the town this September, promising another vibrant celebration of music and community.
Scheduled for Saturday, September 21st, this year’s event, supported by Malmesbury Town Council, is set to accommodate a larger audience compared to last year, yet organisers anticipate tickets will sell out quickly.
“Last year’s festival was a tremendous success, organised in a short span and coinciding with European Folk Day,” noted town councillor Steve D’Arcy. “Tickets sold out rapidly, so despite increased capacity this year, we advise securing tickets promptly.”
Heading the festival organisation once more is Catherine Burke, a local resident and passionate folk music enthusiast renowned for her management of the Purbeck Valley Folk Festival.
“I’m thrilled to bring back the festival this year,” Catherine enthused. “Last year was a fantastic day, and I’m eager to recreate the magic.”
Catherine has curated an impressive lineup for Folk & Roots, featuring Phil Henry and Hannah Martin, known as the Edgelarks, who rose to fame after busking at Sidmouth Folk Festival and went on to win the prestigious Best Duo award at the 2014 BBC Folk Awards.
Also gracing the stage is John Smith, a seasoned performer who has toured extensively across Britain, Europe, and America, both solo and alongside renowned artists such as Iron and Wine, James Yorkston, and David Gray.
Headlining the festival will be Urban Folk Quartet, renowned for their fiddle-led music that defies traditional folk band conventions.
The festival, running from 2pm to 9.30pm, will offer on-site dining and refreshments. Morris dancers will entertain around town, while local establishments prepare for an influx of visitors. Burton Hill campsite is extending discounts to festival attendees.
Tickets are priced at £30 for adults, £15 for 13 to 17-year-olds, and free for under 13s, available at the Town Hall or via https://www.malmesburyfolkroots.org/.
