Swindon’s Festival of Tomorrow Set to Celebrate Art, Science, and Innovation with Local Artists

Swindon’s Festival of Tomorrow is back this February half-term with an exciting line-up of events exploring the intersection of science, innovation, and the arts. Local artists Sheryll Fox, Andi Cummings, and Carol Williams will be joining forces with other national and local talents, showcasing their original works during this year’s celebration.

The Festival, which attracted over 24,000 visitors last year, will once again offer a variety of free events, from hands-on science activities and creative workshops to inspiring talks and performances. This year, there is an even stronger emphasis on blending scientific exploration with artistic expression, as a growing number of artists participate.

Sheryll, Andi, and Carol will be presenting their diverse range of artworks in the Great Western Hall at STEAM. Their collection includes striking expressionist landscapes, playful depictions of teddy bears, and thought-provoking abstracts, all set against the backdrop of the impressive Gaia installation by Luke Jerram. This display promises to be a feast for the eyes, and visitors will have the chance to meet the artists in person, learn about their creative processes, and even watch them paint live.

Alongside the visual arts, there will be a variety of workshops available for festivalgoers of all ages. Highlights include Marian Hill’s collage workshop where children can create their own insect illustrations inspired by UK wildlife, and Jo Beal’s nature-themed art sessions, offering drop-in activities at the Carriage Works. Steph Tudor will also be leading workshops inspired by sustainability research, including bio-plastic art experiments, and Helen Schell will return with hands-on family activities exploring future space technologies.

For those looking to get involved in the artistic side of the festival, the organisers are inviting submissions for the first-ever Open Exhibition. The theme for submissions is “Our Future Earth”, encouraging creators of all ages and abilities to contribute their ideas.

Sheryll Fox, one of the artists taking part, expressed her enthusiasm: “The Festival of Tomorrow is a fantastic opportunity for artists to engage with new audiences who might not typically visit galleries. We’re thrilled to share our passion for art and inspire the next generation of creative minds.”

Festival organiser Louise Halliday echoed this excitement, noting, “This year’s festival is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, with an incredible line-up of artists and creatives. We’re proud to showcase the talent right here in Swindon, alongside renowned artists and creative organisations from across the UK and beyond.”

The Festival of Tomorrow promises to be a unique and inspiring event, blending art, science, and community in an exciting celebration of creativity and discovery.
