Swindon’s Create Studios Teams with Harry Potter Director to Launch New Short Film Fund

In an exciting development for budding filmmakers, Create Studios has partnered with acclaimed director David Yates to announce the winners of their inaugural Short Film Fund.

Originally intended to support two short films with £1,000 in funding and £10,000 worth of equipment for each chosen director, the exceptional calibre of the applicants led to a decision to extend the support to three films.

The three talented filmmakers selected for this opportunity are Daniel Granville, Louis Hickson, and George Green. Their diverse projects, spanning genres from comedy to drama, were chosen from a competitive pool of submissions across Swindon and Wiltshire. Filming is now underway in Swindon, with each director making use of the resources provided by Create Studios to bring their creative visions to life.

Creative Director Gurch Singh shared his enthusiasm about the fund: “The response to our Short Film Fund was beyond our expectations. The talent and creativity of the applicants were so impressive that we felt it was only right to support an additional film. This reflects the vibrant and dynamic film community we have in the region, and we’re honoured to be part of their journey.”

David Yates, renowned for directing the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series, is co-funding the initiative and will attend the premiere of the films on 22nd November 2024. Yates, who began his own production career with Create Studios over two decades ago, has played a crucial role in making this fund possible. “Supporting new and emerging talent is incredibly rewarding,” Yates said. “I’m excited to see the final films and celebrate this milestone with these promising directors.”

The Short Film Fund, which was announced in May 2024, aims to provide both financial support and essential filmmaking resources to up-and-coming directors. The selected filmmakers each received a £1,000 budget and access to £10,000 worth of equipment from Create Studios, allowing them to produce their projects with a professional touch.

Create Studios is dedicated to fostering new voices in the film industry, and this fund marks a significant step in that direction. “We’re eager to share these films with the world,” Gurch Singh added. “The Short Film Fund has highlighted the incredible potential of the next generation of filmmakers in our region, and we believe this is just the beginning.”
