Swindon Film launches new season with acclaimed thriller Dragonfly

Swindon Film returns for a new season next week with Dragonfly, the acclaimed 2025 thriller starring Andrea Riseborough, Brenda Blethyn and Jason Watkins.

The film will open the new season at 7.45pm on Wednesday, 9 September, at the Arts Centre on Devizes Road in Old Town.

Directed by Paul Andrew Williams, Dragonfly follows neglected pensioner Elsie, who forms an unexpected friendship with her young neighbour Colleen.

As the relationship develops, Elsie’s resentful and guilt-ridden son begins to cause tensions, with the situation eventually leading to shocking consequences.

The film features standout performances from Riseborough and Blethyn, who were jointly nominated for Best Joint Lead Performance at the 2025 British Independent Film Awards. Jason Watkins also delivers a highly praised supporting performance.

Dragonfly is the first of 14 films being screened by Swindon Film during its 2026–27 season, which runs through to March.

The volunteer-run film club specialises in bringing the best of new world cinema to Swindon, with every film hand-picked for its quality and interest. Films are shown in the tiered theatre at the Arts Centre, with refreshments including snacks, soft drinks and alcohol available.

Screenings start promptly at 7.45pm, with no advertising breaks or interval.

Membership for the full season costs £85, giving access to all 14 films. There is also a pay-as-you-go membership option, costing £5 to join, followed by £9 per film, or £8 for concessions. Non-members can pay £10 on the night.

Membership is open to anyone aged 16 or over.
