Comedy fans in Swindon are in for a treat as Rhys Darby brings his brand-new stand-up show, The Legend Returns, to the Wyvern Theatre on Saturday, 21st June 2025.
After almost a decade away from the stand-up circuit, Darby is ready to take audiences on a hilarious and unpredictable journey with his unique blend of physical comedy and sharp observations.

Darby’s new show explores the challenge of staying relevant in a fast-changing world dominated by AI and technology. Can a simple dad with slightly tight jeans hold his own in an era of robots and automation? According to Ancient Astronaut Theorists, the answer is yes – and Darby intends to prove them right with a healthy dose of human silliness and absurdity.
Speaking about the tour, Darby said: “I’m so excited to return to the stage — a bit older, a bit wiser, but mostly a bit sillier than ever before!”
Darby has been a staple in the comedy world since the mid-90s and is one of New Zealand’s most successful comedy exports. While he’s well known for his stand-up, most people recognise him from his on-screen work. He shot to international fame as Murray Hewitt, the clueless but loveable band manager in Flight of the Conchords. He’s since starred in the Jumanji films and the pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death alongside long-time collaborator Taika Waititi.
Beyond acting, Darby is a prolific voice-over artist, with more than 50 animated roles to his name, including Monsters at Work and Voltron: Legendary Defender. He’s also an accomplished writer, having penned This Way to Spaceship, a semi-autobiographical novel, and a series of children’s books featuring his alter ego, Buttons McGinty.
For those wanting to see Darby’s signature mix of storytelling and physical comedy live, tickets are already on sale. Early booking is advised as demand is expected to be high.
