Rehearsals Underway for Swindon’s First Ever Production of Evita

Swindon is about to witness a theatrical first, as rehearsals step up for the town’s debut staging of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s legendary musical, Evita.

From the bustling streets of Buenos Aires to the haunting notes of Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, the show charts the remarkable journey of Eva Perón – Argentina’s most famous First Lady – as she rises from humble beginnings to power, fame, and infamy.

Presented by SALOS (Swindon Amateur Light Operatic Society), this production promises to be a landmark moment in the town’s performing arts calendar. Director Russell Langdown is already delighted with how the cast and crew are pulling together:

“Evita is one of the most beloved and challenging musicals, and we’re proud to be bringing it to a local audience for the very first time. The response from the cast, crew, and community has been incredible.”

The West End revival may have seen ticket prices climb to eye-watering heights – as much as £500 a seat – especially during its much-hyped run starring Hollywood’s Rachel Zegler. But in Swindon, audiences can enjoy the same stirring music and drama for a fraction of the cost. Tickets for the Wyvern Theatre performances start at just £23, with demand already proving strong.

Evita runs at the Wyvern Theatre from 15–18 October 2025, and with anticipation building, booking early is advised to avoid disappointment.
