Out Of My Mind- book review by Booksy.

Out of my Mind by Sharon M Draper- a book review.

Hi guys, today I’m going to be reviewing the book Out of my Mind by Sharon M Draper. This emotionally intense novel is all about a twelve-year-old girl called Melody who has cerebral palsy, meaning she can’t talk or walk. From the day she was born she has been surrounded by words, only she can’t say them. She has only been allowed to sit in room H5 of Spaudling Street Elementary School for years, with children just like her.

As fifth grade starts, a new inclusion program is introduced, allowing Melody to finally mix with what she describes as ‘normal kids’. She is even given the opportunity to enter a major national competition!

But with good, comes bad. Will her new classmates ever really accept her? Will she ever fit in? And will some friends prove to be traitors?

Find out in this amazing book, which I’m rating a 10/10. The reader really can connect with Melody, how she can’t say the words she wants to say, and the struggles she goes through. Unfortunately there aren’t enough middle grade books that depict children with disabilities as the protagonist so this is a really refreshing as well as important novel.

I recommend you buy it from your local bookshop or maybe look for it in a library when possible!

Happy reading and stay safe!
