Renowned for his unique blend of stand-up comedy, theatre, journalism, and occasional performance art, Mark Thomas is set to bring his latest show, ‘Gaffa Tapes,’ to the Swindon Arts Centre this November.
Often hailed as the ‘godfather of political comedy,’ Mark has been a stalwart of the alternative comedy scene for nearly four decades, known for his sharp wit and unabashed political commentary.
In ‘Gaffa Tapes,’ Mark returns to his stand-up roots, delivering his signature anti-Tory humour and incisive social critique. After a series of theatrical ventures in recent years, this tour marks a return to his finest comedic form, promising an evening of laughter and thought-provoking insight.
Mark Thomas’s career is nothing short of illustrious. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, just ask your parents. Over the years, he has won eight awards for performing, three for human rights work, and one he cheekily invented himself. He has produced six series of ‘The Mark Thomas Comedy Product’ and three ‘Dispatches’ for Channel 4, created five series of ‘The Manifesto’ for Radio 4, and penned five books and four playscripts. His collaborations include art exhibitions with Tracey Moberly, and he even crafted a show for the Royal Opera House.
Mark’s activism is as notable as his comedy. He has been instrumental in forcing a politician’s resignation, changing laws on tax and protest, and holds a Guinness World Record for the most protests in 24 hours. He has taken the police to court three times and won, with a fourth case pending. Mark’s daring spirit saw him walking the 724km length of the Israeli Wall in the West Bank, showcasing his commitment to social justice and his penchant for ‘mucking about’ to upset the right people.
Don’t miss your chance to see Mark Thomas live at the Swindon Arts Centre in November 2024. With his sharp humour and fearless political satire, ‘Gaffa Tapes’ is set to be an unforgettable evening.
‘Gaffa Tapes’ will be at Swindon Arts Centre on Thursday 21st Nov 2024.
