World renowned artist Professor David Ferry is coming to Swindon as part of the Friends of Swindon Museum and Art Gallery’s programme of talks.
Professor Ferry is known for his playful and humorous approach to print making and book art, and has completed many fascinating projects including Cake Walking in Scotland (2015) and Stately Aquariums of England (2013). In this exciting talk, he will discuss his experiences at vibrant London art schools during the late 1970s and ’80s, when new influences were taking hold. Under the stimulus of British Punk and teachers who were moving away from the traditional art school format of the life-drawing class, students were gathering inspiration from outside the established art scene.
This talk offers a marvellous opportunity to hear a first-hand account of what it was like to be an art student in London at a time of excitement and transformation.
The Friends of Swindon Museum & Art Gallery are excited to welcome Professor David Ferry at this particular time, after the opening of an exhibition celebrating London artists who revolutionized art in the late 20th Century, Modern Times: How the School of London Changed British Art (22nd February – 1st July).
