Welsh comedy sensation Kiri Pritchard-McLean is mid-way through a UK tour with her brand-new show, Peacock, and Swindon will be one of her stops.
Known for her sharp wit and ability to turn challenging topics into powerhouse stand-up, Kiri’s latest show promises sequins, social commentary, and plenty of laughs.
Kiri, who has made a name for herself as a multi-award-winning comedian and satirist, is fresh from a hectic few years that saw her hosting Live at the Apollo, fronting Radio 4’s Best Medicine, and even becoming a foster parent. You might not have known about her fostering journey until now, as she’s kept that part of her life off-stage—so much so that even the children in her care have no idea she’s a comedian! In fact, Kiri even uses a different name in her role as a foster carer, earning her the title of “comedy’s Bruce Wayne” (minus the mansions, of course).
But after a couple of particularly awkward gigs in boardrooms with social workers, Kiri’s story as a foster carer has been given the green light for stage. Her new show, Peacock, will lift the lid on the highs and lows of foster care, offering insight into first aid training, dealing with social workers, and even the perils of being searched on YouTube by a vicar!
As always, Kiri’s shows combine big laughs with thoughtful observations, and Peacock is no different. With rave reviews already circulating, including being called “the Renaissance woman of UK comedy” by Rolling Stone, audiences are in for a treat. The Guardian has also lauded her for “making powerhouse stand-up from the thorniest of subjects.”
In addition to her comedy, Kiri continues to promote important causes. During her Peacock tour, she will be collecting pens and pencils for the charity Pens for Kids UK, which provides much-needed learning equipment to children around the world.
Kiri’s fostering journey has also attracted attention from Foster Wales, a not-for-profit network of fostering services in Wales. Alastair Cope, Head of Foster Wales, praised Kiri for helping raise awareness about foster care, stating, “It’s fantastic to see our foster carer, Kiri, positively promoting fostering during her UK tour.
