Swindon arts charity, Reach Inclusive Arts (RIA), proudly announces ‘In Reach’, an art exhibition set to take place at the Wyvern Theatre from 22nd June to 31st August 2024.
This exhibition marks a significant celebration of RIA’s 40 years of promoting artistic opportunities for people with additional needs and life challenges.
A preview of the exhibition will be held on Saturday, 22nd June from 2 pm to 3:30 pm in the lower foyer of the Wyvern Theatre. This event showcases the collaborative efforts of participants and artist collaborators from two of RIA’s main projects: the Right Time for Art group and the Partners Theatre Company.
The Right Time for Art group, based at the Wyvern Theatre, comprises adults with a diverse range of disabilities, life experiences, and challenges. Their portraits of Wyvern Theatre staff, featured in the exhibition, are a heartfelt acknowledgement of the support received from the theatre.
Billy Beaumont, a professional artist and group facilitator, reflected on the group’s positive impact, saying, “During my time leading Right Time for Art, I have found that art not only provides a supportive team environment but also serves as creative therapy, beneficial to mental health and well-being. It means a lot to share what I have learned, and I’m always inspired by the group’s creative endeavours.”
Partners Theatre Company, another focal point of the exhibition, is a drama group hosted at the Wyvern Theatre for adults with various disabilities and health needs. They collaborate with theatre professionals to devise original works, performing in diverse public venues. The Partners portraits, created by professional actor Leah Fletcher, capture the spirit of this vibrant group, with photographs taken by volunteer Sam Sweeny, who is developing his portfolio and gaining valuable work experience.
Leah Fletcher shared her experiences, stating, “Working with Partners Theatre Company is all about sharing joy and talent; and most importantly, it’s great fun.”
Sue Welsh, Arts Project Coordinator at RIA, expressed the profound impact of the organisation’s work, “I have been privileged to witness the profoundly positive effect that access to the arts has had on our participants. In many cases, it has been a lifeline.”
