One of the main aims of the Shoebox is to support new theatre companies and writers and make it possible to present their work to audiences in Swindon. We are excited to announce that the Scram Collective will be previewing their first play ‘Whimsy’ at the Shoebox before it’s London debut later in the year!
Written by Alex Newport, ‘Whimsy’ is a surreal piece that combines quick dialogue with intense physicality to explore themes of corruption, abuse and generational complacency.
Day after day, Aoife lives out her boring old regular life, accompanied by four bodies who wish they could do something about that. After a bizarre experience with a hideous masked creature, Aoife finds that she has the strange power to do anything she wants. She no longer has to work, pay bills, or do as she’s told, instead the world simply bends to her wishes.
Audience members will be invited to meet Alex and the company after the performance to provide feedback and discuss the production – of course this is entirely optional!
Alex Newport was a member of Wrong Shoes Theatre Company in 2010 and played ‘The Loner’ in ‘Nightlife’, since then he has moved from Wiltshire to London, trained with Forth Monkey and co-founded Scram Collective, as well as working as an Actor.
