What makes us listen to music? How do we choose our music? Does it choose us? Can music reflect key moments in our lives? Does music suggest everything and answer nothing? How and why does a certain piece of music inspire, comfort, or console? What works of music carry you through life?
Music critic for The Observer and author of Music for Life – 100 works to carry you through, Fiona Maddocks has chosen works to express and reflect our most universal experiences.
