President of the Royal Academy, Christopher Le Brun, is coming to Swindon as part of the Friends of Swindon Museum and Art Gallery’s programme of talks.
Le Brun is a talented painter, sculptor and printmaker, whose stunning eight foot high canvas ‘Hyperion’ entered Swindon’s collection of modern British art in 1982. Since the painting was acquired Le Brun has had a rich career. He has work in collections throughout the UK, Europe and America, and has served as a trustee for prestigious galleries including the Tate and the National Gallery, London.
Due to popularity, the talk is being held at the bigger venue, at Swindon Dance and in this special event the artist will be interviewed by Sophie Cummings, Curator at the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.
Despite earning an international reputation, the artist is looking forward to his return to Swindon due to his early connections with the area. He recently stated, ‘Swindon Art Museum and Gallery were one of the very first to buy one of my early major paintings so I’ve always felt warmly towards them. I also feel strongly that the work of the regional museums is so important and I note my fellow Royal Academicians feel the same. Having been brought up on the south coast with strong family connections in the New Forest, I’m particularly interested in galleries in this part of the country which I know so well.’
This talk will be an exciting opportunity to hear more about Le Brun’s work and career.
The event will take place on Wednesday 15th February 2017, from 7:30pm at Swindon Dance. Tickets can be purchased online at www.friendsofsmag.org
