There is a rare treat on offer at the Wyvern Theatre this September as the Swindon Recital Series opens its new season with a lunchtime concert showcasing two of Brahms’ most treasured works.
On Wednesday 10th September 2025 at 1.05pm, three highly regarded musicians – Elizabeth Drew (clarinet), Caroline Dale (cello) and Paul Turner (piano) – will reunite on the Wyvern stage, almost a year after their much‑admired performance of Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time.
This time their focus is Brahms, with his richly woven Clarinet Trio, written in 1891 after the composer was inspired by a clarinettist whose playing reignited his creativity, and his sweeping Cello Sonata No.2, a work brimming with youthful energy despite being written in his later years. Audiences can expect passages of calm beauty, sudden bursts of drama and a lively gipsy‑tinged finale that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
Tickets are priced at £9.50 for adults (including the theatre levy), £3.50 for students aged 15–18, and free for accompanied children aged 14 and under. A small transaction fee may apply.
