I am Malala is an autobiographical book about Malala Yousafzai’s amazing story, retold for her own generation.
After watching the incredible film about Malala, I was inspired to read the book.
I am Malala is a tale of triumph, bravery and standing up for what is right.
One of the many things I loved about this book is how much the reader connects with and empathises with Malala.
When she is sitting in her home listening to gunshots you fear for her, when she is in hospital you pray for her and when she stood up to the Taliban you are proud of her.
This book also opens the reader’s eyes to the female struggle for education and rights around the world.
Even though Malala’s life seems a far cry from that of the reader’s, being the youngest ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, you can still relate to her when she tells you about her squabbles with her siblings and trying to come top of her class in her maths test!
I feel that this book could have been even better if it hadn’t omitted information about Malala in her infancy and younger childhood.
I would like to know more about Malala’s life as a small child as I’m sure that those formative years shaped her character.
I am going to rate this book a 9/10, which means I suggest you definitely should buy it.
I recommend this book for children aged 11-15.
Happy Reading!
