Two of the South West’s most beloved family attractions are joining forces in a storybook-worthy collaboration set to delight readers young and old. The Bath Children’s Literature Festival, the UK’s largest standalone children’s book festival, has announced a new partnership with Longleat, the iconic Wiltshire estate known for its grandeur and wildlife.
Running from Friday 26th September to Sunday 5th October 2025, the festival will once again bring a stellar line-up of children’s authors and illustrators to Bath. However, this year’s celebration of stories will also have a distinctly wild twist – courtesy of Longleat.
Festival director John McLay, who co-founded the event with Gill McLay in 2007, shared his excitement about the new partnership:
“We’re thrilled to be working with Longleat this year. They are the perfect partner for the Bath Children’s Literature Festival. We both love families, animals, and history, and are committed to entertaining and educating young people in a fun way. Books are full of adventures in the imagination – at Longleat those adventures are real!”
With its Elizabethan architecture, family history stretching back 16 generations, and a safari park filled with lions, giraffes and more, Longleat adds a unique layer of storytelling magic to the 18th edition of the festival.
Scott Ashman, Head of Operations at Longleat, said:
“Both our organisations are focussed on ensuring children and young people enjoy opportunities and have fun while learning at the same time. We are looking forward to working with the festival to inspire children and bring imaginary worlds to life.”
Families attending the 2025 festival can expect animal-themed events, special appearances, and immersive experiences that will bring favourite tales to life – whether it’s the mischievous tiger who came to tea or an elephant boarding a bus. Full programme details will be unveiled in early summer.
Members of Longleat and Friends of Bath Festivals will receive priority access to tickets – a definite perk for families looking to immerse their little ones in a world of wonder.
