Roll up, roll up! The Wyvern Theatre is preparing to raise the curtain on one of the most ambitious shows to hit its stage in recent years — Barnum: The Circus Musical, running from 5th to 9th May 2026.
Bringing razzle-dazzle, daring feats and a toe-tapping score, this colourful production tells the story of the legendary P.T. Barnum, a man who blurred the lines between showbusiness and illusion to become one of the most iconic figures in entertainment history.
Taking on the role of Barnum is none other than Lee Mead, the West End star who rose to fame as winner of Any Dream Will Do. Mead’s credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Wicked, and Legally Blonde — and now he’s set to don Barnum’s top hat and even brave the tightrope walk that made Michael Crawford a theatre legend during the show’s original London Palladium run.
With Cy Coleman’s rousing score, Michael Stewart’s clever lyrics, and Mark Bramble’s sharp storytelling, audiences can look forward to timeless numbers like Join the Circus, The Colours of My Life, Come Follow the Band, and Love Makes Such Fools of Us All.
Barnum is more than just a musical. Directed by Jonathan O’Boyle and choreographed by Strictly’s own Oti Mabuse, this new production features a dazzling cast of over 20 performers, including acrobats, actor-musicians, and circus specialists. It’s an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza blending live theatre with circus spectacle.
This Swindon stop is part of the show’s new UK tour, and it’s expected to be one of the most talked-about events in the local calendar next spring.
