Swindon’s Arts Centre is set to welcome comedian and satirical commentator Andy Zaltzman this November as part of his largest national tour to date, The Zaltgeist.
Known for his unique blend of wit, topical humour, and an unlikely yet distinctive role as a professional cricket statistician, Zaltzman is a well-known voice in British satire. With a career spanning radio, television, and podcasting, this live show on 22nd November 2024 will bring his comedic take on global issues to a local stage.
Zaltzman’s extensive experience includes hosting BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz, where his knack for topical comedy has revitalised the longstanding show, bringing it to a new generation of listeners. With critical acclaim and increased audience numbers, Zaltzman’s hosting has given The News Quiz an “unheralded revolution,” as noted by comedy review platform Chortle. Fans of cricket will also recognise Zaltzman from his unique role as a statistician on the BBC’s Test Match Special, a post he has held since 2016, where he brings statistical insight and humour to the legendary cricket commentary.
In The Zaltgeist, audiences can expect Zaltzman’s trademark wit, tackling questions about modern life and society. His new show aims to address broad questions, from the existential to the absurd, like Why? and What now?, all framed by Zaltzman’s satirical take on the quirks of modern human behaviour. The tour will also feature audience interaction, with attendees invited to suggest issues for Zaltzman to attempt solving, using the “power of technology” to find humorous “solutions.”
Aside from his work in stand-up and radio, Zaltzman is a familiar face from Taskmaster (where he will soon appear in Series 18) as well as numerous TV appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Russell Howard’s Good News, and Politics Live, among others. As a co-creator of The Bugle, a satirical podcast with a worldwide following, he continues to reach audiences globally.
