Adenike Adewale, a singer who started her career in the privacy of her bedroom, has since risen to the heights of the UK music scene as the lead in Queen of the Night – A Tribute to Whitney Houston.
Born in Bromley and now juggling an impressive dual career with the Ministry of Justice, Adenike fronts the powerful Whitney Houston tribute, which has already toured the UK, graced iconic stages like The Royal Albert Hall and The London Palladium, and is now celebrating its 10th anniversary.
In a recent interview, Adenike opened up about her personal journey from shy choir singer to powerhouse performer. She recalls singing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” on The Voice in 2021 as a watershed moment, revealing how music helped her find her true passion. With a reverence for Whitney that runs deep, Adenike describes the show as much more than a tribute. “There’s an electricity in the air,” she says, “as audiences connect with Whitney’s timeless music.”
Queen of the Night isn’t just a performance; it’s an immersive journey through Whitney’s musical life. From the powerful ballads like I Will Always Love You to the energetic hit I Wanna Dance With Somebody, the show offers a window into the artist’s journey. “For me, it’s not about becoming Whitney but celebrating her,” Adenike explains. She captures Whitney’s unmatched vocal range and spirit, with each song rekindling treasured memories for fans.
Despite the demanding tour schedule, Adenike is committed to maintaining her voice and energy. “It’s a discipline,” she shares, “balancing rest, rehearsals, and live shows. I want to give audiences the best experience possible.” The tour promises two and a half hours of musical homage, performed with a full live band, dedicated vocalists, and dancers who have all formed a “musical family.”
Whether the show’s at a packed Palladium or an intimate theatre, each night brings its own magic. “Sometimes you can hear a pin drop,” Adenike says, “and others, they’re singing along like they’re right there with her.”
