Inspired by her personal journey of loss and the wisdom of her friend Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Larkin takes a difficult subject and turns it into something life-affirming. Described as “improbably funny” and “astonishingly uplifting,” her show offers both solace and laughter, shedding light on the universal experiences of loss and rediscovery.

Larkin first met Tutu in 2006, during a dinner where, sensing she was being overlooked, the Archbishop engaged her in conversation. “He told these two young men at the table that he didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize to help them with their careers while they ignored me,” Larkin recalls, adding that their bond quickly developed from that moment. Tutu’s profound words, “You can’t control what happens to you, but you can control how you respond to it,” stayed with Larkin and later became the bedrock of her poignant comedy show.

After the sudden loss of her fiancé Bhima in 2020, Larkin faced immense heartbreak. However, instead of succumbing to despair, she found an unexpected well of joy. This energy, coupled with the memory of Tutu’s wisdom, propelled her to create Grief… A Comedy, a show that navigates the path from sorrow to hope, and from mourning to laughter.

Touted as “a theatrical miracle” by the Daily Mail, Grief… A Comedy has received widespread praise for its ability to bring light and laughter to one of life’s most difficult experiences. As Larkin blends her sharp comedic timing with heartfelt storytelling, audiences are invited to laugh, cry, and, most importantly, celebrate the resilience of the human spirit.
