Some of the greatest names in jazz piano will be celebrated at the Wyvern Theatre when three members of the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars bring 125 Years of Jazz Piano to Swindon.
The show arrives at the Wyvern Theatre on Wednesday, 16 September, with James Pearson, Artistic Director of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, joined by fellow Ronnie Scott’s All Stars members Sam Burgess and Chris Higginbottom.
The trio will take audiences on a journey through more than a century of jazz piano, from the early days of Ragtime and Stride through Swing and Bebop and on into the music that followed.
Along the way, the show will celebrate some of the musicians who helped shape jazz piano, including Fats Waller, Art Tatum, Dave Brubeck, George Shearing and Oscar Peterson.
Pearson, who has been Artistic Director of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, is well known for his work with the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars and has performed with many of the leading names in jazz.
With Pearson joined by Burgess and Higginbottom, the evening promises plenty of musical firepower, but also an entertaining look at how jazz piano has developed over the years.
From the rhythmic drive of Ragtime and Stride to the sophistication of Bebop and beyond, 125 Years of Jazz Piano offers an opportunity to hear the different styles and influences that have made the instrument such a central part of jazz.
