Swindon is set to welcome a brand-new endurance challenge this summer as The Longevity Relay makes its debut on Saturday 4 July at Moredon Sporting Hub, bringing together runners of all abilities for a unique 12-hour relay event.
Running — quite literally — from 9am through to 9pm, this inaugural event is designed to celebrate movement, teamwork and long-term health, while offering an inclusive challenge that places community at its heart.
Open to teams of two to six runners, as well as solo entrants, The Longevity Relay stays true to the traditional relay format. Participants will run with an official relay baton containing a timing chip, ensuring that every lap and handover is accurately recorded throughout the day.
The course itself promises a varied and scenic experience. Each lap covers 4.5 miles, beginning on the state-of-the-art closed-road cycle track at Moredon, before heading along the old railway line and into Shaw Woods. Runners will complete a loop through the woodland before returning to the hub to hand over the baton to the next teammate.
As the first event of its kind locally, The Longevity Relay taps into Swindon’s ever-growing running community and the increasing number of residents prioritising health and wellbeing. Organisers say the event is about more than physical challenge, aiming instead to showcase Swindon as a town that supports one another and leads by example when it comes to active living.
“The Longevity Relay is about more than miles covered,” said the event organisers. “It’s about community, consistency, and proving that fitness can be inclusive, social and sustainable. This event is another step towards our vision of Swindon becoming the fittest town in the country.”
Participants are encouraged to enter as friends, families, running clubs or workplace teams, making the day as much a social occasion as it is a sporting one. Adding to its wider impact, the event has partnered with Brighter Futures and the Roxi Foundation, giving entrants the opportunity to raise funds for local charities while taking part.
With twelve hours of shared effort, community spirit and continuous movement, The Longevity Relay is shaping up to be a standout addition to Swindon’s sporting calendar — and a landmark moment for local endurance events.
