Labour Spokesperson for Children’s Services, Cllr Carol Shelley, has responded to the recent recent Ofsted letter on their two-day focused which looked at the effectiveness of Swindon’s Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub. The letter states that children are being left at risk of harm due to failures in the way a council is responding to protection concerns.
Councillor Carol Shelley, Labour’s Spokesperson for Children’s Services, said, “Clearly this is a very damning inspection report. I am extremely concerned that the inspectors have found that some children have been at risk of harm as a result of council failings. Our new Director of Children’s Services has only recently been in post however the Conservative administration on the Council have overseen all of this and we have heard nothing from them that there were so many problems. One wonders whether they were aware of the extent of the problems themselves.
I would expect to see some quite dramatic changes to the way Children’s Services is delivered following this inspection report and look forward to meeting with the Council Director for Children’s Services in how he is going to deliver the necessary changes to bring our Children’s Services department back fit for purpose.”
