As part of their Local Studies Week, pupils from St Leonard’s CE Primary Academy in Blunsdon received an insight into how their local area is growing from Newland Homes.

The Year Four pupils visited the Broad Blunsdon Heights development and found out about the new homes on the development, how they are built and why people choose to buy new-build homes.

They then explored the showhome, a five bedroom ‘Haresfield’ home, and enjoyed the good weather around the water feature in the landscaped garden.

Jayne Palmer, Broad Blunsdon Heights’ sales advisor, said: “It was great to have the pupils visit the site and to hear their thoughts on how Blunsdon is changing.  The pupils were asking some very insightful questions about how new homes are built and sharing their experiences about living in new and older homes.

“Broad Blunsdon Heights has been a popular location for families looking to move as the houses on the development have been designed with growing families in mind and like St Leonard’s, there are some fantastic schools in the area.”

Mr Berry, Class Four Teacher, said: “The visit to the housing development was a great end to our local study week. The children really enjoyed looking around the show home and were very interested in the house building and buying process. They were buzzing about it on our return to school. We spent some time discussing the pros and cons, both in the short and long term, of house building in the local area and it is great how children of such a young age can begin to understand grown up issues and realise there is always more than one point of view.”

Arthur said: “We walked to the showhome on a hot day but arrived on time. It was great fun. I learnt that it takes 20-23 weeks to build a house. I want more houses in Blunsdon as it gives us more opportunities to improve the village facilities but I do want it to stay peaceful and be an area for nature.”

Delia added: “It was very interesting to see the housing development and I learnt that you have to wear special clothes on a building site to protect yourself. I am a little worried about more traffic but I loved the showhome.”

There are currently seven homes left for sale, with prices starting at £375,000.  For more information on Broad Blunsdon Height, visit  or call Jayne on 01793 278101.
