Wiltshire Roller Derby (WRD) took on their first opponent of the 2019 season, Central City Roller Derby B (CCRB) on 23rdFebruary.

The two teams had not faced off since 2013, when CCRB took the win with a final score of 297-65.

Wiltshire had a rocky start with an early jammer penalty leaving them unable to score, allow CCRB to secure a 0 – 8 lead. Wiltshire worked hard to make up lost ground and at the end of the first half they had taken the lead with the score as 88-72.

Despite 12 jammer penalties throughout the game, Wiltshire were able to maintain their lead with a final score of 196-134.

Vice Captain Maddy Austin said of the game “It was a hard-fought first game and it’s brilliant to start the season with a win. We’re all training hard to keep up our momentum and rise to the challenge of Tier 2.“

Wiltshire are continuing to train in advance of their next game against Halifax Bruising Banditas on 23rd March.
