Swindon will welcome home a new World Champion when they face Belle Vue at the Abbey on Thursday (7.30).

French favourite David Bellego won gold with his country in the World Team Long Track Championship on Saturday.

The CFS Filtration Robins man notched 13-points in Morizes as France got the better of Great Britain by 10-points and Germany finished third.

France’s victory was largely down to a 10-5 win over the Brits when they met in Heat 2 and they never looked at risk of losing this lead.

Swindon boss Alun Rossiter said: “We would like to offer our congratulations to David and the French team from everyone at Swindon Speedway.

“David is a good guy and I’m delighted for him. It must have been an emotional occasion in his home country to step up to the podium as a World Champion.

“We look forward to seeing him back in Swindon colours at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday night and we hope everyone comes along to welcome a World Champion.”

This win confirms the French emergence as a major Long Track nation and is a reward for the support which the French federation (FFM) has given to the development of track racing in that country.
