Drivers could soon start receiving a fine for parking on pavements anywhere in Swindon if MP’s get their way.

Illegal in London since 1974, councils throughout the rest of England could soon be given permission to dish out £70 fines.

The Transport Select Committee  are currently examining the problems caused when vehicles are parked with at least one wheel on a pavement. This includes damaging surfaces not fit to be driven on and blocking access for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

If the new laws are implemented, Swindon Borough Council will be able to make it illegal to park on the kerb.
