Poetry Swindon is proud to present a brand new open mic, starting on Monday 30th July.
‘Wordrakers’ is a monthly poetry-centric open mic held at the Castle Inn on Prospect Hill. Every month from half past seven all are welcome to come and read verse of their own devising or works of others that they admire. The first evening in July will be a simple “read what you like” affair, with little twists, turns and surprises being added in various months to keep it fresh and lively. There will however always be room for the core pleasure of reading and listening to poetry.
The name ‘Wordrakers’ is derived from the Wiltshire legend of the Moonrakers, immortalised in an Edward Slow poem published in 1894; an adapted version will be read at the opening night to introduce newcomers to a slab of Wiltshire history.
‘Wordrakers’ Open Mic night will be held every month at The Castle Inn, 28 Prospect Place, Swindon, SN1 3LQ, doors from 7pm.
