Swindon Wildcats pleased to announce Neil Liddiard’s return

Swindon Wildcats have announce that Neil Liddiard will be returning to the team for the 2017/2018 season, in their first announcement of #5in5, where they will be announcing five signings in five days.

‘Lidds’ returned to Swindon in the summer of 2015 sealing a return from Guildford where he’d spent 12 consecutive seasons. Since his return Neil has become synonymous for his brand of team first hockey alongside throwing himself in front of any shot he’ll see.

After awarding him the Coaches player of the season for the previous two seasons, Player Coach Aaron Nell was thrilled to see Liddiard return to Swindon for a third season saying, “We’re very happy Lidds is back in Swindon next year. We had a very quick conversation, he loves it in Swindon and I think he’s had a new lease of life since he’s been back here for the last two years.

You get every penny out of him every week. He puts his body on the line every game and you can’t help but admire his worth ethic. He’s a coach’s dream, he comes to work every night and that is what you want from all your players.

If players are giving 100% that’s all you can ask for. He cares about Swindon and he blocked more than 100 shots last year and he will again this year. He wants to win and he will do all he can to help us be successful.”

Neil, who made his Swindon Wildcats debut in 1993, was just as thrilled to be back at the club where it all began for a third consecutive season: “I’m so happy to be asked back to the Wildcats for another year. It was a very quick decision for me to make. Everyone involved in the club has made me feel so welcome since I came back after many, many years away.

When I was younger I never imagined playing to the age of 40, but now I’m almost there I appreciate every time I’m on the ice and I’m going to do all I can to help the team and the fans win some much-deserved silverware.”
