With the 2018 race season fast approaching, the Swindon Robins official supporters club will take to the terraces with some new faces on their committee, and a new name to go by.
Previously under the guise of the Pit Crew, the newly named ‘Robins Nest’ will inherit and continue all the successes that the former supporters club put into place. The Robins Nest committee will be looking to increase the events and member benefits, providing plenty of reasons for the Robins fans to get involved. The new Robins Nest Supporters Club will also be taking over the Junior activity at the club with the exciting ‘5-1 Junior Robins Membership’ being launched very soon.
Joining supporters club committee stalwarts Darcia Gingell and Rita Poole, will be lifelong Robins fans Vivien Hansford, Charlotte Rabey, Helen Osborne and Marie Osbourne Matthews, along with Robins Commercial Manager Lee Kilby.
“Darcia and Rita have been organising and running the Supporters Clubs for many years now and have always done such a wonderful job” said Kilby. “I personally wanted to get involved, firstly as I am a Robins fan and want to do my bit to help promote the club from the terraces, and secondly from a commercial viewpoint. I can see such benefit from the club having a vibrant active supporters club. It will only aid my role as Commercial Manager having a busy supporters club out and about in the Town.”
“We’ve had our first meeting as a committee and it was great to see the energy and ideas that the group generated. The main aim is to increase the supporters club membership base by setting out a timeline of events that gets fans of all ages involved. Ultimately, the goal is to increase and generate funds in a fun way, to be able to support our riders on track when and if they hit a financial sticky patch.”
Asked about the name change, long time committee member Darcia Gingell commented, “We just felt it needed a change. The name has worked well over the years, even if it hasn’t been my favourite name. We voted unanimously to be renamed the Robins Nest and we were also aware that some supporters suggested the name too. I’m excited for the season ahead.”
The first Robins Nest event of 2018 will be a speedway themed Quiz Night on Thursday 8th February at The Southbrook Inn pub (SN2 1HF) starting at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome, and you don’t have to be a member to attend. The quiz will be done in teams and teams can be put together on the night if anyone is coming solo to the event. Robins Team Manager and Southbrook Inn Landlord Alun Rossiter will be on hand to welcome all fans, and Commercial Manager Lee Kilby will be the quizmaster for a seven-round quiz consisting of some interesting rounds including, ‘Where’s Wosco’, ‘Points Make Prizes’ and the aptly named card game ‘Top Crumps!’.
Robins Nest renewals and application forms for 2018 will be available on the night priced £10. If you sign up for membership on the night, you’ll receive a £2 discount. Monthly payment and contribution options are available.
