We are receiving reports this afternoon of a large group of teenagers ‘causing havoc’ in the Town Centre.

Around forty teenagers are believed to be riding in the Town Centre in a group despite the 2015 Public Spaces Protection Order which was updated in October 2016, banning cycles being ridden through the pedestrian areas of the centre.

Any person is prohibited from cycling, at any time, in a pedestrianised zone within the restricted area.

One Swindon shopper is understood to have been assaulted by one of the cyclists as the group made their way to the Wharf Green area.

A Police spokesperson has confirmed ‘We were called at 1215 about a group of 25-30 teenagers on bikes. Officers attended but the group had dispersed.

At present, despite a number of witness there has been no report made to the police of any assault.
