Tesco is pulling batches of ready meals from shelves due to a labelling error.

The packaging on the Hearty Food Company Cottage Pie and the Sausage and Mash ready meals fail to mention that the dishes contain milk.

This means the meals could be a health risk for anyone who is allergic or intolerant to milk.

If you know that you are allergic to milk, the supermarket is advising you not to eat it and instead return it to your nearest store in exchange for a refund.

The products being recalled include:

400g Hearty Food Company Cottage Pie

Use by dates:

24 April 2018, 27 April 2018, 28 April 2018, 30 April 2018, 01 May 2018, 02 May 2018, 03 May 2018, 04 May 2018, 05 May 2018

400g Hearty Food Company Sausage and Mash

Use by dates:

25 April 2018, 26 April 2018, 29 April 2018, 01 May 2018, 02 May 2018

In the recall notice, the supermarket said: “We have been made aware by our supplier that due to a manufacturing error certain date codes of the Hearty Food Company chilled Cottage Pie and chilled Sausage and Mash may contain small quantities of milk.

“These products should not contain milk and as such milk will not be declared on the packaging.”

No other Tesco products are known to be affected.
