As we are hit with more hot weather this bank holiday weekend, out come the summer clothes, but have you got your sandals and flip-flops out too?
Motorists are bring reminded to take care about the footwear they choose to wear whilst driving.
While it’s not illegal to wear flip-flops or sandals while driving, footwear must not have an impact on the way a car is driven and if it does there can be repercussions.
If you put anyone in danger due to your footwear it then becomes illegal and this could mean your car insurance is invalidated.
The RAC has tips on picking the best footwear for driving:
Have a sole no thicker than 10mm. – but the sole should not be too thin or soft.
Provide enough grip to stop your foot slipping off the pedals.
Not be too heavy.
Shouldn’t limit ankle movement.
Be narrow enough to avoid accidentally pressing two pedals at once.
