Are you due a refund for being wrongly charged on your household bills?

According to uSwitch.com around 1.3 million households were overcharged by an average of £79 each by energy suppliers with many still waiting for a refund.

Mistakes recorded include:

  • Meter readings not matching the bills
  • Direct Debit payments differing to bill amounts
  • Incorrect energy pricing charged
  • Mixing up your bill with another customer

It is reported that over 91,000 customers are still awaiting their refunds with the average time taken to resolve all other cases being up to 35 days.

Claire Osborne, energy expert at uSwitch.com, said the mistakes were “unacceptable”.

“Households are already feeling the pinch from recent energy price rises, and having to chase for an average of 35 days to get their money back simply adds insult to injury,” she added.

“We want to see companies do much more to make life easier for their customers, accurate bills are the bare minimum they should expect from their energy suppliers.”

If you believe you have been wrongly charged and are still awaiting a refund – contact your energy supplier.
